May 2024

Hi again friends of the farm.
Well, we are in full swing here and as per usual, life has been pretty hectic. Flowers and crops are finally starting to bloom and the sun is shining...somedays.
We have our new greenhouse up and running, as well as our new building, which will make life much easier for us going forward. We will be able to host larger events and workshops, as well as freeing up other facilities for our ever growing farm.

May is also the start to our monthly We Care deliveries and MFRC pantry assistance. Thanks to the assistance of The Royal Canadian Legion, we were able to deliver fresh produce, baked goods and pantry items to 22 families, as well as help replenish the food pantries at both Military Family Resource Centre locations in HRM.

VFP is grateful to the many people and organizations that volunteer on the farm to help us with so many things. We were lucky enough to have Team Rubicon Canada come to the farm to help us with some of the larger tasks like clearing brush and trees that were damaged during last years storms, as well as a few things that needed many hands.
Team Rubicon is veteran led humanitarian organization that serves global communities before, during and after disasters and crisis. When they saw the damage that was done to the farm last season, they immediately contacted us to offer their assistance. We can't thank them enough for all their help. Please check out their website to learn more. https://team-rubicon.ca/

A new season also means the start of our partnership with Brooklyn Village Garden Centre in Newport NS. We're very lucky to be able to sell our beautiful flower bouquets there and Mother's Day was in full swing. Farmer Jess was working like crazy to supply over 300 bouquets of tulips for them to sell, of which part of the proceeds come back to VFP to assist us on the farm and in the community. We will be selling our beautiful bouquets throughout the year so make sure you drop by and visit Jackie. We're very grateful for their support

Once again, we'll be offering fresh produce, baked goods and pantry items as "take what you need, pay if you can". We will also be selling our flower bouquets and beautiful artisan items made by local veterans.
Hope to see everyone on the farm:)
