Hello once again to all our Friends of the Farm:)
I can't believe it's already the end of August. Anyone else feeling like the summer has been flying by? Farmer Jess and the gang have been busy as usual with all the flowers, veg and other exciting things.
VFP is now working in conjunction with Landing Strong in assisting some families with our We Care boxes. Landing Strong is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting military members, veterans and first responders who are experiencing the effects of operational stress injuries.
Their team of mental health professionals have specialized training in trauma recovery. We’ve created community-based health and work transition programs to support both active duty and retired service members.Â
Please take a moment and read about the wonderful resources they provide.
VFP is once again happy to be invited to The Bluenose Fall Welcome Event
An event for all Military and Veteran families to connect and welcome newly posted families to our area, with fun activities for all ages!
The H&R MFRC and our friends at 12 Wing warmly welcome military members, Veterans, and families to the Shearwater Sea King Club for a free BBQ, ride on the trackless train, open swim and so much more!
The Veteran Farm Project Society will be on-site with their fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, jams, preserves and more!
This event will run rain or shine. There is no cost to attend and no need to register. Free parking is available and may fill up quickly, additional parking is available at the H&R MFRC, PSP Fitness & Sports and the Shearwater Flyers Arena. Accessible parking is available. Come visit us and purchase our fresh veg, baked bread, veteran created artwork and of course, our famous cowboy candy!
On August 12th, we were honoured to have the Minister of Veterans Affairs, Ginette Petitpas Taylor, visit the farm. She, Jessica and Steve had some great conversations about food insecurities within the veteran community, and women in the military. We always welcome visitors on the farm and thank the Minister for taking time out of her busy schedule.
Our farmstand has been happening on the farm and we wish to thank everyone who has visited. We will always post on FB as to when we will be open and what goodies will be available. It's been a very busy summer with events, infrastructure and weather challenges to name a few. Thank you for being patient with us:)
Great news! We will be starting up our workshops next month. We are in the process of planning all the info and dates so please make sure you check our FB page and as always, we post all sign up info on our website. www.veteranfarmprojectsociety.com
