What's happening at the Farm

Hello friends of the farm! Our new website is live and we're very excited. Don't forget to bookmark it so you can stay in the know about all that's happening on the farm.

It's a new season here at the Veteran Farm Project and we're excited to get things

started.

As some of you many know, Mother Nature wasn't kind to us in 2023. Between wildfires, flooding and hurricane force winds, Nova Scotia took a beating. Unfortunately, our hoophouses and barn sustained some major damage but we've thankfully been able to get ourselves back on our feet and we're growing once again for a new year.

We will update on our progress in next months newsletter:)

What do we have planned for 2024? Once again, we will be growing an abundance of beautiful flowers and produce and we can't wait to see them all start to bloom. We will be providing flowers for a few weddings, special events and of course, our weekly bouquets that will be available at our farmstand and The Brooklyn Village Garden Centre in Newport.

We also have plans for many more weekly workshops on the farm. As always, our workshops are free but spaces are limited. We will post them on our website first, prior to social media so our newsletter subscribers will be notified earlier.

Unfortunately, due to the dark and gloomy days we've had over the past month, we will need to use May to catch up with planting, spring cleanup and all things farming. We have lots of fantastic fun ahead on the farm. In order for us to get there, we'll need some help. Please look out for social media posts for volunteering days.

A few of the fun workshops we hosted in 2023

Starting in June, we will be opening our farmstand for a new season. We will be offering our farm fresh produce, bread from Bakers Choice and many more exciting things. Thanks to our generous partners and supporters, we will be offering "take what you need, pay what you can" at the stand again this year, as well as some beautiful bouquets and art work to purchase. Stay tuned to our website and social media pages to stay on top of dates and times.

Our farmstand last season. This year we will be moving it indoors with more space for more items.

Are you familiar with The True Patriot Love Foundation? We are honoured this year to be a part of this wonderful organization who have chosen us to be a recipient of their generous funding.

Currently there are over 486,000 Veterans and families in Canada. Every year, about 5,000 military personnel leave the service and join them.

TPL is Canada's foundation for the military, working to support military families, Veterans and their families, at every stage of their journey.

Their areas of focus are family health and support, mental health and well-being, physical health and rehabilitation, and community.

Please take a minute to click on the logo above and learn more about the wonderful things they are doing for our military members, Veterans and their families.

We are always in need of volunteers at the farm (don't have to be a veteran), from helping with the flowers, gardens or even assisting with our deliveries. If you are looking for a fun place to spend some time in nature with our amazing team, please send us an email at veterarfarmprojectgroup@gmail.com
